Morning light over the Hinchinbrook Channel Hinchinbrook Island - Queensland - Australia show detail prevnext
The Hinchinbrook Channel is vitally important for a range of rare and threatened marine animals. The Irrawaddy River Dolphin, Green and Flatback Turtles have made the Channel their home. Extensive seagrass beds are found in the Channel making it an important feeding and breeding area for prawns to dugongs. On this particular flight around Hinchinbrook Island, I was initially hoping for clear weather so I could obtain photographs of the eastern seashore. The light just wasn't right, so we flew around to the Channel side and one of the most beautiful sights unfolded. The tide was full, and the reflections of clouds in the meandering estuaries was completely breathtaking.
