Tumbled rocks of Orchid Beach Hinchinbrook Island - Queensland - Australia show detail prevnext
Seen on the horizon are a group of four small rocky islands cloaked in rainforest. These form the Brook Island group - North, Tween, Middle and South. The Brooks are vitally important to Terns and Torres Strait Pigeons. The Torres Strait Pigeons spend six months of the year in the New Guinea region. Then, beginning in August, thousands migrate southwards to nest on islands all along Australia's tropical coast. This is the time when the rainforest trees and vines bear fruits that form their diet. How wonderful it is to see them fly in formation, across the smooth waters of Missionary Bay, to and from their island homes.
